Cretan Nights
Just when you think it couldn't get any better at Pegasus, guess
what? It gets better! Now, a visit to Koutouloufari's top restaurant
becomes a truly complete Cretan experience. Every Friday evening,
in addition to serving its full menu of taste-tempting international
and Cretan specialties, Pegasus presents a spectacular live show
of traditional Cretan music and dancing.
You'll thrill to the exciting performance
of the dancers, dressed in traditional colourful Cretan costume,
as they tap their feet, click their heels, and leap in the air – all to the vibrating rhythms
of the lyre and the mandolin. Then, you'll "ooh and ah" as
the lead dancer performs a feat of ultimate skill – dancing while
perched on the top of a wine glass!
And, if you can tear yourself away from the
wonderful food on your table for a few moments, you'll soon be
part of the show yourself. The performers will have you up and
dancing the "Siganos," a
sort of line-dance with all partners holding hands as it snakes
through the restaurant, and out onto the village streets. The Siganos
starts off slowly (as the name implies) but be prepared – it eventually
builds to pulsating crescendo.
Then, after a short break,
and a change of costume, the dancers return – this time dressed all in black. The second show at Pegasus'
live entertainment night features the music and dancing of mainland
Greece. The music now has the bouzouki and rebetiko sounds, which
are more associated with Greek cities. The dancers, with their
flying feet, perform amazing feats of rhythmic magic, demonstrating
a skill that explains why ancient Greeks believed dancing was invented
by the Gods.
A Cretan evening at Pegasus
will have you shouting "Opah!" and
even joining in the Greek tradition of smashing plates at the dancers'
feet – but the food is so good, you're sure not to toss the plate
until it's empty! OPAH!
